The show glued everyone every weekend to the idiot box. And for the first time, everyone in the family agreed on the same channel- Bhutan Broadcasting Service. It was the best time listening to the voice of the Druk Yul in the making. And Sunday April 18, 2010 brought to an end to the long and fulfilling program on BBS with the crowning of Jampel Yangzom as the Druk Star 2010. All smiles to the people of Bhutan – the best has rightfully won the title.
It is a good sign now that Bhutanese are now slowly learning to vote for the best. The 2013 election is not very far and I am very optimistic now.
The organizers of the show must be really proud of their work. It gave the contestants best opportunities to explore their hidden talents and made well known to the fellow Bhutanese overnight. Just a few months ago, Jampel Yangzom or Lopon Chencho or Phurba Chencho or Sonam Tobgay was an individual just like you and me. But now the whole nation talks about them appreciate their voices and are simply role models for the budding Bhutanese singers. Thanks to the organizers. On the whole, they have put up an excellent show. Although everything has business motive, the organizers of Druk Star have gone to the extent of helping the contestants. Kudos to them all. And congratulations to Jampel and all for standing up to the expectations of all Bhutanese!
But wait, where is BT Star? We hardly hear about her. Will 2010 Druk Star winners be forgotten likewise? Let’s not hope so!

Although I do not really have an ear for Bhutanese music and songs (but love to participate in the dances), I've been expecially pleased to note a lady winning both times - last year and this year. Don't you think Bhutanese ladies are indeed talented and recognized to be so by the majority of our people?
ReplyDeleteIndeed madam Tshering! It shows Bhutanese women are now coming forward and proving their worth. So, let this be a simple tribute to all women in Bhutan and around the world.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
ReplyDeleteIf you are wondering where the BT Star is gone, she is playing a cheap role in a bhutanese serial. She was good of course but not the best, that we all agree. She was the wrong winner unlike Jampel Yangzom who is wholesome. Her victory was, as i heard, due to a rich man. That was the end, no more good. Look at Tshering namgyal who is doing well now!
ReplyDeleteSo there is this connection between our first election and BT star and Druk Star with the next that is coming up! All looks good...
