We have shown that we are capable. Our private papers are testimony to this. Initially no one thought it was possible to sell newspapers other than Kuensel. But now Bhutan already boasts of four privately run papers. And we are made to understand that some more are in the offing. This is very good news to us all. Other papers should take this as an opportunity to work harder and better themselves.
But for now private Bhutanese channel is what everyone wishes for. This in turn should give very good competition to BBS. And unless we have a channel choice, we might have to continue watching hourly news programs and hearing shooting non-stop public announcement that sometimes stretch more than five minutes.
What do we want in the new channel?
Definitely, Bhutanese people want to have new, unique and better programs and updated news, live reporting. Because right now we are made to feel that even if their building is on fire, BBS newsreaders will continue reading the prepared news report. In Bhutan news reaches people very fast even without media.
We want some long and more satisfying Live programs. Today, however important some discussions are, BBS appropriates just 30 minutes, half of which painfully passes in the introduction session. Yes, we understand some discussions are continued after the news reading, but the whole charm is gone when they continue after half an hour. So much preference to news reading!
Give us something satisfying, something detail. Hopefully, all that will change once when we have a private channel daring to compete.
P.S: No intention to discredit either Kuensel or BBS and readers should read it as my random, untamed and candid thought process at work.
It is even more painful when the tenents do not have the privilege to choose the local TV service providers.
ReplyDeleteTenents are on the mercy of their landloard and have to be satisfied with the TV line chosen by their landloard.
Our society is very undemocratic...and in such a scenerio who is to be blamed.
God bless us all.

ReplyDeleteI am feeling shame on writing this that so called Indo-Pak friendship ambassador Zee TV has insulted the ideology of Pakistan.
